cddstamps on stamps

my thoughts on stamps, stamp collecting, philately in general and maybe a few other topics !

Hello, with two weeks to Christmas I am wondering if you have treated yourself to a Christmas present?

Having just listed some brilliant material to the online store, including some difficult to find Australia Vendor machine stamps from 1988, some very nice Fiji from the 1950 / 60s  and some stunning copies of Southern Rhodesia for the 1953 though 1964 I just thought best to tell you, so you have one more option for a present to yourself.

I would be showing you my present to myself but it got mailed to my old Hong Kong address  - but,  well done Hong Kong Post, they redirected the envelope back to the sender, a good friend of mine in Perth. I will be getting it very soon and will share with you in the new year.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy seeing these few stamps, and to whet your appetite for a present from you to your.

Let me tell you one more thing. While listing these we checked some of the competition. There are 766 online stores on the Hipstamp portal now.  So there are a few sellers with the same or similar stock to us  But we welcome that. Why? because if you look at some of the competition you will see the stamps are extremely poorly described, some have no description or even SG or Scott catalogue number.  How do you know what you are buying when there are perf differences, watermark differences, the Mint stamps could have heavy hinges, or hinge remnant marks, or, on and on I could go.

At cddstamps you don't have to worry because we spend a lot of time describing each stamp, including both SG and Scott catalogue numbers and we also quote SG catalogue prices for more pricey items so have a sense of what you are paying.

And, we point out the minutest of detail that we think you should know about before you think to buy for your collection.
Oh! and by the way, if you want stamps with obvious creases, bits missing, short, very short and missing perfs,   nice stains and heavy cancels especially on common stamps for example, you have plenty of stores to chose from ( yes I know that s a bit cheeky of me, but true all the same) but you wont find such material at cddstamps, unless it is a more expensive stamp and most likely described as a spacefiller.

Finally, we are very proud of what we list for sale and what we list are stamps we would have in our collection. We are also very proud of the quality of our packing. We pack to ensure whatever the quality of the handling of the mail by the many postal authorities who handle the mail as it moves from us to you, or to the weather on the journey  your stamps will arrive in excellent condition; just as they left us.

If you were a cddstamps customer this past year I do not need to tell you all this do I.

But I thought it would be a nice plug for the end of the year. And perhaps a reminder to check out cddstamps once again.

Thanks for enjoying cddstamps.  Michael

Hello, something very different to show today. I hope you enjoy seeing this

I need something like this to look at occasionally. Very peaceful.

The stamp is from 1983 from a series of 4 issued showing Swans - it is SG 3284. The cover it is on was Issued in 1986 at the China Stamp Exhibition held in Rome to promote friendship and understanding between the Postal Administrations and philatelic circles of China and Italy. . The postal cancel like the cachet on the cover symbolizes the Chinese envoy of friendship flying to Italy along the Silk Road. Hope you enjoy seeing this

But I do need to add why it is nice to see something peaceful at this time. England got thrashed once again at the cricket in Adelaide, the Ashes second game, losing by 120 runs. Awful performance in my humble view. . I hang my head in shame for them, and to get off the subject I have had to keep up my discounts on GB stamps in our online store. found here. takes you direct to the GB listings with the discount applied If you also follow the cricket and need something to take your mind off the England performance and want to fill a few gaps in your GB collection - or even if you don'e follow cricket but have a few gaps to fill - why not visit the store and treat yourself for Christmas. Merry Christmas

Cheer yourself up as well and get a few stamps to fill some gaps in your collection.  10 wicket loss, so sad,, so be happy with a 10% discount. -  starts on 27th November.

Enjoy your cricket and your stamps.    just copy or click click and then search by the SG number you are looking for

Hello, many thanks to all of you who sent in replies to the Comet question. The answer was the Great Comet of 1680 —This comet was discovered on Nov. 14, 1680 by German astronomer Gottfried Kirsch, this was the first telescopic comet discovery in history. also known as Kirsch's Coment.

Well done for so many correct answers. I decided to send runner up prizes. so quite a few of these will be in the mail (from Hong Kong)

Just one more for you to enjoy I hope. This was issued in 2014 in a Miniature Sheet. It is a Lenticular stamp - that is when you move it the image changes. The image shows the Tyhpoon Vicente. Lovely condition and as such I will leave it on piece as I think that is best way to show it. Rather than risk any damage by soaking it from the paper. Just as an aside, maybe you do that with some stamps? I read people asking how to soak stamps, especially self adhesives. My view, is don't. Best for the stamp not to try to remove from the paper and especially with GB Security Machins.

Enjoy your stamps Michael

Hello,  I do hope you enjoy seeing this pre-paid envelope. Something a bit different. Found along with many others while sorting our Australia stock today.

Issued in 1995 as one of a Bird series, it shows a Palm Cockatoo. It is listed in the Seven Seas Australian Stamp Catalogue as E340.

This leads me to promote cddstamps Australia sale, including this lovely envelope. and more as we get time to load over the coming days.

For the month of November we are doing 20% off all Australia stock.  Great chance to fill some gaps, pick up some perf varieties, some imperfs from booklets, or just a few to improve your collection.  And if you order before 14th November we will be mailing orders from Hong Kong as we will be visiting the stamp arcade there that coming weekend.   Perhaps help to get some nice Hong Kong stamps and hopefully a much faster delivery of your order.

Treat yourself for Christmas....  which I see is only 46 days away..  will be here in a flash :-)

have a philatelic day   Michael and our store at

Hello, yes I am back from the last trip.  Another to the UK. I managed to pick up a few nice stamps for my collection while there and a few others which will, when I get a few spare hours, go into the cddstamps online store

This se-tenant pair is from the recent  Ladybirds Book issue. I think you might find a nice clean used se-tenant pair hard to come by  - coming to the cddstamps online store soon.  This issue was released at the London Stampex 2017 show back in September.  I have no idea why as I cannot find any materials about a commemorative event.  Perhaps a reader will know?

As I write it is Halloween tonight. have a great a safe time.

Best wishes       Michael
